hi dave
ReplyDeletewhere was tyler jackson last road trip?
any word if donaldson wants to play yet?
stormfan
Hi StormFan,
ReplyDeleteTyler Jackson was ill and didn't go on the road trip.
Spencer Donaldson is still a no show. I don't think that he will be back but that's my own opinion.
The word is that Spencer was benched by the team for a game (don't know what for but it was obviously internal) and both he and his dad (Gary - Asst GM) have not been back since and I have not had an opportunity to talk with them.
It's too bad... Spencer was good enough to stick with the team for the season and Gary was the best color-guy that we have had on the internet broadcast since we started. Despite their quality traits, a team doesn't function well when there is dissension in the ranks. It's been 3 weeks now and I have very little faith in a "kiss and make-up" scenario playing out.
Thanks for asking.
Oh ya, Menton did end up in Columbia Valley. He will give them some much needed offense. I would have liked to see him back here this year as he provided some highlight reel efforts. To my recollection, he had his ice time cut back in the playoffs last season and wasn't really happy about it.
ReplyDeleteGroenhyde is there also but I don't have any news or opinion on him... I just didn't see enough of him.
hi dave
ReplyDeleteyeah menton is doing well there.
did you mean to say that gary asst. gm. has left the team also? or have you just not seen him?
if so. wow!
sounds like the lindros chronicles.
too bad, he was a pretty good player, but if in ones own mind that they are better than the team, happy trails!
getting benched is part of growing up and finding your spot. going to the wall for the coach is hockey. commitment is everything.
ya cant run everytime something doesnt go your way.
again i draw this from what ive heard, if those are not the circumstances then i apologise.
stormfan
I have not seen Gary but his absence coincided with his son's.
ReplyDeleteI do not know what the circumstances were so I can't comment on that.
Menton is in Columbia Valley. Based on last years stats, even with his icetime cut he lead the team in scoring in the playoffs. Someone was not paying attention, or he pissed some people off.

I'm not sure what Menton did or what changed his mind about not coming back.
ReplyDeleteI know that he was looking for a US College scholarship (he is also American) and wasn't happy with the ice time that he was getting to showcase his skills. He certainly had the ability to heat up the highlight reel.
It's rare that an NCAA Div 1 team would dip into the Junior B ranks to fill their roster but not impossible, especially if the player is an American. A couple of 16 year old players got signed or offers earlier this year, Dylan Walchuk was one but off hand, I can't remember the other. Walchuk was an absolute stand-out last year for Nelson, especially in the playoffs when he led the league in scoring with 26 points in 16 games.
I hope that Menton gets his wish but he is going to have to be an absolute standout in this league. I must say, he is a very nice kid and could play on my team anytime.
